Justice Ken Wise is the host of Wise About Texas, the podcast that has brought Texas history to life for listeners in more than 178 countries — approaching 2 million downloads and ranking among the top 1% of podcasts worldwide. He created the show with a simple mission: to preserve and promote the stories and values that built Texas, told with the rigor of serious scholarship and the energy of a great storyteller.
A seventh-generation Texan whose family roots reach back to the Republic of Texas in 1836, Justice Wise was born and raised in Houston. He attended Texas A&M University, where he competed on the intercollegiate rodeo team, before earning his law degree at the University of Houston. After eight years in private practice, he took the bench as judge of the 152nd and 334th District Courts and today serves as Senior Associate Justice on the 14th Court of Appeals in Houston.
His passion for Texas history reaches well beyond the microphone. Justice Wise served as President of the Texas State Historical Association — the longest-tenured president in the organization’s history — and is a past President and Trustee of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society. He teaches history and government at Houston Christian University, where he developed an upper-level course on Texas history, writes a quarterly feature for Texas Wildlife magazine, has published numerous journal articles, and is completing a Master of Arts in History. The Texas House of Representatives has formally honored Wise About Texas by resolution. One of the state’s most sought-after speakers on Texas history, he brings that same enthusiasm to every episode.
