As an old man, Enrique Esparza claimed in an early 1900’s interview that he remembered Crockett and that the Tejanos called him Don Benito. He says that approx days 8, 9, 10 were days that Santa Anna called an armistice and that “Don Benito” met with him each day to negotiate a surrender. I’ve not heard this elsewhere. Is there any contemporary corroboration?
No that I know of.
